GRETTA ZILLER & DOM ITALIANO

GRETTA ZILLER is returning to Bittern… and she has some NEW MUSIC!!!!

First impressions aren’t always right. If you’ve been foolish enough to nail down the sound of acclaimed songwriter Gretta Ziller, then prepare to have the rug pulled out from under you. Queen of Boomtown, her stunning debut record, defies categorisation and demands repeated listens.

Since its release in 2017 Queen of Boomtown has garnered recognition with industry & fans alike, not only was Queen of Boomtown long-listed for the Australian Music Prize but she was also invited to perform at the Melbourne launch alongside Jen Cloher & Birdz. The album received rave reviews from press, including Rhythms Magazine and a 4-star review from Rolling Stone Magazine.  ‘Slaughterhouse Blues’ the first single from her album was also given an Honourable mention in the 2017 Unsigned Only and International Songwriting Competitions. The album was nominated for a Golden Guitar as well as an Age Music Award in 2018 and Gretta was mentored by Tom Busby (Busby Marou) as part of the 2018 APRA inaugural female songwriter’s mentorship program. Gretta was also an APRA PD finalist & performed at Australian Music Week November 2019, most recently she received a Golden Guitar nomination with ‘Vocal Collaboration of the Year’ for her song ‘Second Hand’.

We are thrilled to have Gretta returning for a House Concert and can confidently guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

DOM ITALIANO is making his first visit to Bayview Country Art Club. He is NOT a starving artist! He earns a living singing other people’s songs. And, after eating whatever he wants, spends the rest his money on making his own music… & guitars.

Dom sees life as an infinite set of problems to solve. The challenge of life is in finding the best tools to solve the problems you’re faced with and whenever a problem has no obvious solution, that’s when writing a song becomes Dom’s go-to tool kit.

Crafting a new song and searching for the perfect lyric is Dom’s antidote to the noisy, smelly & blunt life as a ‘pub singer’. Taking inspiration from Paul Simon, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly, a Dom Song will often have major-key music and minor-key lyrics (or vice-versa).

Dom has been recording & releasing music since 1999 but it’s on the soon to be released ‘The Hurt Party’ that Dom’s finally found his sound. Produced by Damian Cafarella, ‘The Hurt Party’ is a subtle Americana/Pop/Southern Rock exploration. It’s not a musical rollercoaster ride, but more of a smooth, pensive & scenic vacation. You want to visit more than once.

Knowing what to put into a recording is as important as knowing what to leave out. In this sense, Damian and Dom were able to bring in an incredible cohort of musicians to add their talents to the record including: vocals from Gretta Ziller, Rosie Conforto and Matt Bradshaw, fiddle by John Bedggood and Luke Moller, accordion by Andy Pobjoy and pedal steel by Lucky Oceans.

Don’t, let the fact that Dom takes being a musician so seriously give you the impression that a Dom Italiano gig is a sombre affair! Dom’s love of wordplay & banter will have you smiling through the heartbreak songs and laughing during the guitar solos. Whether you’re at a cover or an original gig, you’ll see a performer who obviously found something wondrous in music when he got his first guitar at 12, and wants to make sure you leave knowing how much he still loves making music with it!

Afternoon Tea will be provided as usual, and you are also free to BYO if you like.
